Using the power of play to explore real-life lessons
With over 10 years of full-time teaching experience and 5 years as a top-rated instructor on Outschool, I design immersive, story-driven camps and classes that blend creativity, problem-solving, and fun. My programs offer a structured yet flexible environment where students can explore virtual worlds, collaborate in teams, and express their imagination through original creations.
My vision is to create immersive experiences where students can step into stories, navigate social dynamics, and reflect on their choices in a safe and engaging environment. Minecraft™ is an ideal platform for this kind of learning, offering a space to simulate meaningful challenges that encourage experimentation, collaboration, and awareness of the real impact of one’s actions.
Whether students are working as a team or navigating moments of tension, they encounter natural consequences and peer feedback that foster social and emotional growth. I carefully design and guide each experience to strike a balance between friendly competition, reflection, creativity, and a whole lot of fun.
Expanding Locally in 2025
I have taught these classes solely on Outschool since 2021. Many of my classes have regulars of 4+ years who have formed close friendships with those across the country.
This is the first year I am branching out and hope to connect with students local to the Raleigh-Durham area in North Carolina. I wish to continue using Minecraft™ to create a welcoming online community that naturally grows into real-life friendships outside the classroom.
About Caroline
Drawing on my bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and my education experience, I incorporate elements of personal development, mythology, and psychology into every session. Whether students are building a character in a Minecraft™ roleplay or grappling with big ideas through game-based learning, they’re encouraged to think critically, reflect personally, and experiment actively.
When I’m not teaching, I’m diving into games like World of Warcraft or Elder Scrolls, hiking with my dog Thorfinn, spinning light-sabers, or dancing. I’ve lived abroad, traveled to over 10 countries, and remain deeply curious about cultures, stories, and how we make meaning in the worlds we build—real or imagined.

My child loved it and wanted to do a 2nd week! He went from being shy to interacting w new friends and debriefing all the things he did to build their own community.

Caroline is an Exceptional Teacher for these classes. She has a knack for blending children from different backgrounds, abilities, and temperaments. I have on occasion overheard as she has brought the group around back to a common goal using much patience and understanding. She is a true gem!

My son enjoys Minecraft, but he seriously enjoyed this class. To quote my son, "Ms Caroline was so awesome because she is a great teacher and cool gamer who stayed in character the whole time which made all of us have a really good time, so good I want to take the class again!"

-
My son loved this class. He really loved the instructor, and I found her to be very encouraging and good with the kids too. He enjoyed the fact that he was taught both the "how" and the "why," not just guided through step-by-step without understanding the skill being taught.

Ms. Caroline is an amazing teacher! My 13 and 14 year old participated in her Mythology Club for over a year and loved every minute of it. She strikes an amazing balance between teaching the stories and letting the kids enjoy themselves within a mythological, Minecraft world.

Caroline is a wonderful instructor who engages well with the students and helps them navigate conflict by modeling empathy and respect, and holding them to the established rules of conduct.

All my classes are delivered virtually through Zoom™. Your child will need a device to use Zoom™ AND a device to play Minecraft™ (unless they are using a tablet or PC and do both together). We will be in one big group session and sometimes I will break the group up temporarily into breakout rooms for smaller activities. We don’t really use the video/face cam, it’s more for voice chat. Sometimes I will screen-share a slideshow or images when going over specific stories.
In the game, we play together in a “Realm” which I own, and no one outside of the class will have access to. I will give the code to join before class begins.
-
There are two versions of Minecraft™ that run on different code: Java (PC, Mac, Linux) and Bedrock. My classes use Bedrock only at the moment and work on Windows 10 PCs, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices (phones or tablets). Please make sure your child can play online with their Microsoft account. Depending on the device, this may require a subscription (Nintendo Switch Online, Xbox Live Gold, or PlayStation® Plus).
After you register, I’ll send clear instructions on how to friend me and join the class server.
-
No, I provide the Realms subscription—your child just needs the Bedrock version of Minecraft™ and online play access.
-
Minecraft versions not compatible with my class include:
Minecraft™: Java Edition (PC/Mac/Linux) – Uses different code and servers.
Minecraft™: Education Edition – Designed for schools, with separate features and servers.
Minecraft™: Legacy Console Editions (e.g., Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U) – Older versions no longer updated and can't connect to Realms.
Minecraft™: New Nintendo 3DS Edition – Not compatible with Realms or cross-play.
Minecraft™: Pi Edition – Very limited and outdated.

Of course! I have taught classes on the following subjects in Minecraft™: Redstone/basic engineering in the game, creative-mode building techniques, game design/escape room building, and basics when it comes to commands and structure blocks. Send me a message to discuss with me. If you want something not covered above, I’d be open to designing a new course.
-
Yes, though that depends on the subject. See the FAQ above for some of my Minecraft-related expertise. My price for one on one classes is $40/hour. For private events/parties, send me an email for what you have in mind.
-
Depending on the class I sometimes allow students to play in the realm outside of class-time during the week of their camp.
